As I've waxed poetic about cars like the Porsche 911, which is a motoring icon, another I am not entirely familiar with is the Jeep Wrangler. I certainly appreciate it and when I drove a 2010 model year Wrangler I have to say there is something that company bottled up in that total package.
It is fun and it is unlike mostly anything else on the road today.
This is why I completely understand why Agent 001 insists on having one in his driveway at all times. Well, there's some news on the horizon and it's big. The Wrangler as we know it may be soon undergoing changes that will make it a significantly different product.
On the outside of these spy shots it may look rather similar to the vehicle on the road today; however, those keenly observant folks will notice some of the differences here. Check out its proportions. They're not entirely right. That's because they are different.
While it may look like a current Wrangler on the outside, we've been told there's A LOT going on underneath the skin. That's because the Wrangler is rumored to be getting an all-new architecture, new engines and a better interior.
For a vehicle that relies SO much on its character to sell, this sounds dangerous to me. But, we're hoping Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) doesn't botch the job.
Imagine an aluminum Wrangler with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder motor. It sounds wrong, doesn't it? But if it can off-road the same, if not better, what's the harm? THINK: people questioned the Ford F-150 because of aluminum construction and a turbocharged motor. And it's easily the best truck on the market today.
