The Mercedes-AMG GT is the second vehicle built from the ground up by the company's three-lettered, high-performance division. To say it is a big deal would be an understatement.

Having had just spent time with the all-new big daddy AMG, I have to say it is a very impressive driver's car. That's because it is very far removed from what the company was doing with the SLS AMG. And, frankly, it's very far removed from what the AMG division had turned out previously. I'll explain in a review.

Though I had driven the GT S — the standard GT isn't out yet — we've seen a much more serious variant undergoing testing. To us it looked like a Black Series car. Turns out that one of the buff books has the scoop on what we should expect:

...Aside from gobs more power, massive rear tires, four-wheel steering, and active aerodynamics, look for adjustable spool valve shocks — an industry first...

So, essentially our friends at AMG are going to take the GT S and dial it up to 11. We're all for that.

In addition to that fantastic news, there's been some conversation about the next-gen E63. Keep in mind we have yet to see the all-new E-Class debut — we're crossing our fingers for a 2016 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) appearance.

According to Motor Trend, we can expect the next-gen E63 to be far more focused than the current-gen vehicle.

...That super sedan is expected to lose a good deal of weight thanks to the C63 and AMG GT’s twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 replacing the previous twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8. Though displacement will be down from last year, we hear power will be “competitive."...Expect this version of the E63 to be much more track-focused than all previous versions...

After experiencing the current-gen BMW M5 and last-gen CTS-V — the all-new CTS-V is a complete animal — the E63 as it currently exists definitely needs a greater focus if it wants to be taken seriously. Clearly, someone at Mercedes has been eating their Wheaties.
