One would think that pick-up trucks would be particularly safe vehicles. They're large and in charge, and typically carry a lot of weight behind them. Well, here's a bombshell, folks.

Not one all-new pick-up truck has earned itself a Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick recognition. Well, that is until the Ford F-150 SuperCab came along.

According to IIHS, this is the first time this class of vehicles has been put through the all-new, rigorous small-front overlap test. With exception of the Ford, the other pick-up trucks had moderate to severe of the vehicle's structure into the cabin.

Pretty much that's exactly what you don't want to happen in a crash.

This serves as yet another proof point that the F-150 is the pick-up truck to have if you're shopping among the current selection that includes the Chevrolet Silverado and RAM 1500.

The Nissan Titan and Honda Ridgeline were not included in this series of tests.
