Video game consoles tend to drop this time of year, too. The next-generation Nintendo Wii is due to arrive at stores on Nov. 19. And the Sony PlayStation 3, beset by production woes, is likewise pegged for a November launch.

Our entirely subjective rankings begin with Gran Turismo 4, the current release from the celebrated, comprehensive driving-simulation series. The list then winds through versions of classic driving and racing series such as OutRun, Need for Speed and Project Gotham Racing.
