It's becoming quite clear that today's automobiles are becoming more tech-enabled. This is, really, no surprise given how much time we're spending inside of our wheels. 

And with automotive infotainment systems lagging well behind the norm, it's been rather interesting to see each automaker attack the problem differently. While I don't believe there's a wrong answer, I just seem to find that my mobile phone can deliver the same functionality without much of the fuss of roaming around my vehicle's system.

That said, it hasn't stopped manufacturers from trying.

In this General Motors video, the company shows off its GM Marketplace application that's been pushed to about 2 million 2017 and 2018 GM-branded products with 4G LTE connectivity. Essentially, the purpose is to let owners hop in their ride, place orders, make reservations and more. Think of it as a convenience feature.

GM lets customers order their morning coffee with their car. Marketplace is the automotive industry’s first commerce platform for on-demand reservations and purchases of goods and services featuring brands such as Starbucks (Early 2018), Shell, Dunkin’ Donuts, TGI Fridays. With Marketplace, drivers can now order and pay for their favorite coffee, and much more, on the way to work with a simple tap on the dash.
