The BMW X5 has been an interesting product to watch evolve. While the first two generation vehicles were really differentiated in the busy sport-utility vehicle market, there seems to be a bit of complacency among the blue and white.
Just look at the current-generation vehicle's design, inside and out.
Admittedly so, that didn't stop two of my family members from picking up a six-cylinder and an eight-cylinder for their respective fleets.
As the third-gen X5 didn't particularly move the needle so far forward, we're eagerly awaiting the fourth-gen product. That's because we're anticipating it to be loaded to the gills with the latest BMW technology. As a large volume vehicle, it's important that BMW bring its "A" game to remain competitive but is strategic enough not to alienate its current crop of owners.
In this latest collection of spy photos, it's clear the X5 gets a nip/tuck here and there but it's not particularly revolutionary on the outside. Check out the all-new, much larger kidney grilles and the all-new headlights. Around the back, you will no longer find the L-shaped taillights. Instead you'll find something that appears to be of the first-gen Audi Q5 variety and a seriously large set of exhaust tips.
Here's to hoping BMW really steps up the interior in a serious way.
