A Greek magazine 4Wheels test the BMW 335i versus the Audi S5.
The Audi S5 wins this comparison test because it is the better overall package. The Audi may lack the razor sharp handling precision of the BMW 335 and maybe .1 seconds slower to 60 mph, but it has a more ergonomic interior, a better sounding exhaust burble, very comparable acceleration and has a sexier shape, not to mention it can't be found on every street corner.
The Audi may cost over $10K more base than the 335i, but what it offers is a more striking shape, a clearly more ergonomic and luxurious interior, a louder and deeper sounding exhaust note and very comparable acceleration that can't be found on every street corner.
Could this result be foreshadowing what the RS5 will do to the M3 for the very same reasons that the RS4 has defeated the M3 for being more easy to live with on a daily basis.
The Audis may lack the surgical steering precision of the BMWs but what they offer is a more striking and aggresive exterior, a more luxurious and clearly more ergonomic interior, very comparable performance for the driving enthusiast and more exclusitivity, albeit the package from Audi comes at a steep price as Audi's RS cars have always been more expensive than their BMW M counterparts.
If Audi can create another winning combination in the RS5 it will have successfull released a trio of high-performance smash-hits in the clearly still capable RS4, the phenomenal R8 that has taken down the Porsche 911 range including the Turbo and now a double blow to the M3.
Did I mention there is an Audi RS6 debuting this fall at Frankfurt with 580 horsepower to take on the Mercedes E63 AMG and BMW M5, two cars which both have less than 520 horesepower.
Audi's Quattro GmbH division is ready to stay atop the horsepower battles with their R and RS models.
