According to the eagle-eyed spotters on 1addicts, it appears that the upcoming 1M will not use the newly-christened N55 motor seen in 2011 BMWs.
Certainly you must be asking yourself "How," but the answer can be seen when you get under the new 1M. You have to love the gearheads in forums and on Bimmerfile. When some Sherlock Holmes types got under the new M-car and snapped some shots, we weren't only looking at a differential.
As you can see, there are a couple of other things that stand out to those with keen eyes. To further proove the N54's usage, according to forum members, the same center catalytic converters are found in the N54, bi-turbo motor while they are non-existent in the N55.
Assuming the 1M comes with the N54 shoehorned under the bonnet, that can only mean that this M-car may be an easy vehicle to modify.
This could be a wild ride, BMW fans [[rubs hands together]].
