Although there have been plenty of spy images and videos of the upcoming, next-generation BMW 3-Series, there has yet to be a direct, side-by-side comparison of the E90 and F30.
From what we've seen, we haven't exactly been able to say how much of a difference the new car would be apart from the E90. What we do know is that it appears to take a lot of cues from the F10 5-Series.
With that said, now we have the chance to get a good look at how it compares to the E90 proportionally and from a design perspective.
And from what we can see in our cover shot, it's pretty clear that the vehicle will receive an evolutionary design rather than a revolutionary one. Looking at both vehicles from the rear quarter, most of the car's lines are repeated in the same fashion. Note: the Hofmeister Kink and creased bone line, which look nearly identical to the current car.

Despite the myriad of F30 3 series sedan test mule spy photos we've posted thus far, there has yet to be a direct F30 versus E90 3 series spotting, until now. Although it's only one view for now, it gives us the best idea yet of how the new 2012 3 series F30 sedan will compare to the outgoing E90 3 series with respect to size, proportions, rear styling, and stance. The F30 3 series is believed to be just a tad bit larger with slightly longer wheelbase. Any extra length should be offset however, by the F30's very short overhangs and wheels pushed out to the corners - which maintain the car's squat and athletic stance.
Proportions remain attractive, with the F30 receiving what may be a slightly higher looking greenhouse/cockpit (which may simply be due to a lowered door line), and a sleeker C-pillar-to-trunk transition compared to the E90...
