Fangcheng Bao, a fresh addition to BYD's automotive lineup, has unveiled its inaugural offering, the Bao 5 SUV. While details have been relatively scarce lately, we're excited to share the latest pictures and specifications with you.

The images showcase a stunning 'Peak Gray' model adorned with a gray skidplate and stylish dark gray alloy wheels. Inside, the Bao 5 boasts an impressive dashboard featuring a 12.3-inch instrument panel, a sizable 15.6-inch main screen, and an additional 12.3-inch screen dedicated to passenger entertainment.

Remarkably, the center tunnel is fully equipped, a rarity among new Chinese car models. It houses the drive selector in the center, controls for the 4WD system, and a set of elegant, crystal-like switches.

Underpinning the Bao 5 is BYD's advanced DMO platform, where 'DMO' stands for Dual Mode Off-Road, a term coined by BYD to denote PHEV capabilities. This body-on-frame platform is purpose-built to excel in off-road scenarios, with dimensions measuring 4890mm in length, 1970mm in width, 1920mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2800mm.

The powertrain of the Bao 5 is a plug-in hybrid system featuring AWD (all-wheel drive). It combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with two electric motors to deliver an impressive 505 kW of power and 760 Nm of torque. This powerplant is mated to an E-CVT gearbox, enabling the Bao 5 to achieve a top speed of 180 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. It also incorporates an 83-liter fuel tank and a 31.8 kWh Blade battery, resulting in a fuel consumption rate of 7.8 liters per 100 kilometers. The combined driving range of the Bao 5 reaches an impressive 1215 kilometers, with an EV-only range of 125 kilometers.
When it comes to off-road capabilities, the Bao 5 is well-prepared with a 39° approach angle, a 35° departure angle, and a substantial ground clearance of 310 mm. It also boasts a longitudinal passing angle of 27°.

The highly anticipated Fangcheng Bao Bao 5 is set to hit the Chinese automotive market in November. Pricing is expected to fall within the range of approximately 300,000 to 400,000 yuan ($41,000-$55,000).
