American Honda Motor has issued a massive safety recall stateside, comprising 720,810 examples of the Accord, Civic, and CR-V Hybrid. The high-pressure fuel pump in said vehicles may crack at the solenoid core component, resulting in a fuel leak.

Honda says that leakage may occur when the HPFP is in operation. The Japanese manufacturer puts the blame for said recall condition on a tier-2 supplier. During manufacturing of the solenoid core component, machined chips between the workpiece and cutting tool caused excessive torque input and thrust load, leading to longitudinal and transverse cracks.

Although the automaker hasn't revealed the name of said tier-2 supplier in documents filed with the US auto safety regulator, we do know the high-pressure fuel pumps come from Japan-based Hitachi Astemo. Last time we mentioned this name on autoevolution, Honda recalled a staggering 1.7 million vehicles in the United States of America over incorrectly manufactured steering gearboxes.
