There's good news if you're going for a walk in the dark. According to a new study from AAA, modern pedestrian detection systems only hit about half of the people they encounter unexpectedly in the dark. If that doesn't sound great, consider that just six years ago, the pedestrian automatic emergency braking systems tested didn't manage to avoid anyone.

If you're hoping that wearing high-visibility clothing might help, there's actually some mixed news. It might help the driver see you, but the safety systems might think you're some kind of reflective space alien and not even try to stop should you step into traffic. It all depends on the vehicle coming at you.
