The safety boffins at Mercedes-Benz USA have identified a problem affecting more than 310,000 vehicles from several product lines. According to recall documentation published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration under campaign number 26V481000, a faulty micro-switch inside the driver's door lock assembly could fail to recognize when the door is opened.
As for the safety concern, this electrical glitch disables a number of critical safety functions. Among others, it also disables the automatic engagement function of the electronic parking brake, creating an unintended rollaway hazard. The recall affects United States-market vehicles ranging from compacts like the A-Class sedan all the way to the C-Class sedan, CLE coupe and convertible, and GLC sport utility vehicle.
