Amid the ongoing vandalism surrounding Flock Safety Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) devices and growing privacy concerns, a lawman in North Texas has shut down all Flock cameras in his county. He described them as “garbage,” stating that such surveillance “doesn’t belong in a free society.”
 
Flock ALPRs have been making news regularly, and while these devices are helpful in tracking stolen vehicles as they notify nearby officers every time a flagged vehicle passes by, there have been reported instances in which license plates were wrongfully read, leading the police to conduct aggressive stops on innocent citizens.
