Because so far, the new SUV has been a sales disappointment for BMW.
Granted, it hasn’t been in showrooms that long.
But in our informal calls to about 30 BMW dealers throughout the country (yes, we’re that sneaky) the predominant sentiment, is that the car is not moving as fast as they would have hoped.
The main reason in their opinions, is that it is priced too close to the X5.
Basically, a customer walks in the door looking for an X3 and drives home with an X5.
The price of the two vehicles is extremely close and the salesperson also has the option of pushing the SUV tax deduction on the X5.
The X3 does not qualify.
