For the BMW X6, the German carmaker will be replacing its twin-turbo N54 inline-six in this sport utility with the new twin-scroll single turbo N55 mill, just like it did in the new 5-Series.

According to BMW’s official statement with regards to this vehicle, this move is in line with the company’s drive to simplify its engine options while also providing X6 owners with stronger acceleration and increased efficiency. BMW claims that the N55 matches the twin-scroll N54’s power numbers while also cutting weight from the engine bay. Every pound lost is certainly a good thing as this crossover weighs in at a hefty 4,900 pounds.
