This really shows that VW is very determined to bring the TDI here as soon as possible. VW showed its next generation 2-liter TDI diesel engine in the United States. This is an engine that hasn't been released or even shown in Europe previously. Earlier reports said that it would debut some time next year. The new TDI packs a common rail injection system, and makes 140 horsepower and 240-foot pounds of torque. The current PD TDI makes up to 170 horsepower, so I don't doubt that the new version would be able to produce same power in a higher power version, possible for a Passat. VW representatives said that the engine is so clean that it will be 50 state legal. The best part, it is said to idle quieter than the gasoline powered Toyota Camry that was next to it. Great news, it looks like it will most likely be a 2008 model. Like always, expect great fuel economy. Read the story for more pictures, including shots of the TDI engine.
