After a long wait, BMW has finally come completely clean about it producing an M variant of the 1-Series.
And in the words of an auto writer, Michael Banovsky, "Hey, look! An E30 M3 in a fat suit."
If you ask me, I firmly believe this is exactly what the 1-Series was destined for -- an M.
But, after examining the latest spy photos, thanks to 1Addicts, it appears that the prototype is sporting some of its big brother's gear. While there is no clear indication that this mule will reflect the production car, we would not be surprised if the 1M did steal some bits and pieces from the M3.
If that is the case, would the 1M leer you away from the M3? Why or why not?
Could the 1M shape up to be the most pure of the current crop of Ms?
**NOTE: did anyone catch the new iDrive screen? This design was also spotted on the new 3-Series mule. Is this a sign of things to come?

Here are some more pictures of the 1-series M, including the first interior shots. This is still the prototype, so it's subject to changes, but so for we have M3 seats, M3 steering wheel and different gauges (not sure if the two-tone dials are here to stay). Fuel cutoff appears to be at 7,000 rpm. Contrary to some reports, you can also see a proper LSD...
