As the 2011 Detroit Auto Show inches closer until the big unveil day, Jan. 10, more manufacturers are starting to hint at what is going to be underneath the sheets.
For example, if you went to VW.com today, it is impossible for the landing page to go unnoticed. There's what appears to be a Volkswagen Passat replacement cloaked by a white sheet and it prompts you to pay attention the day of the big announcement, Jan. 10.
Considering the direction of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta, I think it is safe to say that we will see the Passat follow the Jetta's lead. That means a more Americanized Passat that is cheaper -- thanks to some cost cutting in materials and a shorter supply chain since it will be a Tennessee-built product -- and roomier.
Bring it on, VW!
It's no secret Volkswagen is developing a new mid-size sedan (hence the NMS codename) to replace the Passat in the North American market, but today the German automaker posted a teaser on its website ahead of the car's world premiere which will take place at next week's Detroit motorshow.
Visitors entering Volkswagen of America's website are greeted by a sedan model wrapped in a white sheet and a note that says "The sleeker, roomier, all-new, German-engineered 2012 ______. Fill the blank on January 10th"...
