I don't think I could have written a better script myself. Porsche's all-new 911 (991) GT3 has been long awaited and enthusiasts were chomping at the bit to see what it would feature. Sadly, on paper it didn't sound as tasty as the GT3s of the past were.
That's because there was no available standard transmission.
That's because it uses electric power steering.
That's because it has rear-wheel steering.
All things that, by all accounts, dilute the purity of the driving experience. Exactly what the GT3 isn't known for. But now Porsche has decided to start using the tricks it has up its sleeve. And when it comes to setting track times, which is the GT3's priority, these things are necessary. Seems like it worked too as the all-new GT3 is said to best the RS 4.0 around the circuit.
But what is it really like? Can it take down the mighty McLaren MP4-12C on the same track? Recall it has over 600 horsepower and is the workmanship of one of the premiere builders of exotic, high-performance machines.
And, is it a better car to live with over, say, the Nissan GT-R? Considering the GT-R is really the benchmark for performance, this should get interesting.
Believe me, it does.
