Jaguar has given the world its first official glimpse inside the Type 01, the radical all-electric four-door grand tourer that marks the brand’s bold new era. Released ahead of the car’s full public debut in New York on 6 October, the cabin images show a striking, minimalist design that stays true to the controversial Type 00 concept while refining it for production.
The standout feature is a dramatic full-length central spine finished in a brass-inspired material. Unlike conventional centre consoles that end behind the front seats, this architectural element runs from front to rear, creating four distinct individual spaces for occupants. Chief interior designer Thomas Holden described it as emphasising the car’s “dramatic longitudinal nature” in contrast to typical horizontal layouts, delivering “unmistakable drama and theatre.”
The Type 01 has no traditional rear window, so there is no conventional rear-view mirror. Cameras feed a ClearSight digital display positioned low at the base of the windscreen, level with the door mirrors. A full-length panoramic glass roof floods the cabin with light. The dashboard takes a reductive approach: a large driver display sits ahead, while the passenger side features a yacht-like flat surface instead of a secondary screen. Climate, media and other controls appear on a slim floating tablet on the centre console.
The steering wheel closely echoes the concept, with chunky spokes and a slatted lower section. Materials draw on travertine stone, artisan textiles and authentic finishes, with concealed compartments and unexpected moments of colour. Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover noted the goal of making every journey an occasion through a confidence-inspiring GT driving position, clean technology and dramatic styling.
As the first production car on Jaguar’s dedicated electric architecture, the Type 01 is designed, developed and built in the UK. Its interior signals a clear break from the past and a statement of modern luxury. The full exterior reveal in October will show whether this vision can redefine the brand.
