Recently Infiniti was teasing images of an all-new concept for the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. It wasn't teasing much though. All it was showing was a snap of what seemed to be a C-Pillar.

Well, that all changed today as 3D visualizations made their way onto the web. Most publications are claiming that this is the whole banana of the Emerg-e Concept that's set to appear in Geneva.

Billed as an extended-range electric hybrid -- THINK: Chevrolet Volt --, the Emerg-e is rumored to boast a small capacity motor to take over as the electric range goes kaput. In all honesty, that doesn't sound too bad in my eyes. I already think the Volt is the best practical implementation of electric tech so if this is the case with the Emerg-e that's already a thumbs up.

Ultimately though, I think that Infiniti is possibly blowing a really significant opportunity. It all depends on what Infiniti is trying to prove though.

There's no question that Nissan built what is likely one of the most impressive performing vehicles ever with the GT-R. Now imagine something of that caliber in what appears to be a mid-engined package? Wow, that'd be electric -- no pun intended. But given that the GT-R has already proven Nissan's engineering chops, does it really need another high-tech performer?

If Infiniti is just looking to add an also-ran product with the likes of the Audi eTron, BMW's upcoming i8 and -- if Mercedes-Benz ever builds it -- the electric SLS AMG, well it certainly looks and sounds like they're gonna hit the nail on the head. But is the electric supercar market even worth chasing when it's essentially not proven that there even is a market?

What say you, Spies?

**All I know is that from the B-Pillar back I am seeing a lot of Lotus Evora going on there AND I like it!
