Instead of aiming for sales of 200,000 cars in China in 2015, Volkswagen AG’s premium unit Audi AG will target that number in 2013, according to Audi’s head of sales Peter Schwarzenbauer.

Audi had initially planned to reach the 200,000 target in 2015, which is the same time that Audi seeks to have worldwide sales of 1.5 million cars, up from 1 million in 2008. This year, Audi aims to sell 136,000 cars in China . In 2008, Audi was able to maintain its spot as the market’s leading premium brand with sales of 119,598 vehicles in China including Hong Kong . For the first eight months of 2009, Audi has sold 93,610 cars in China , representing an increase of 17.4% compared with the same period last year. To achieve these goals, Audi and its Chinese joint-venture partner, FAW, opened a new 100 million euro (about $148 million) assembly hall last weekend. This is part of the FAW-VW plant in Changchun.
