Last week publications were losing their minds. They saw an all-new McLaren P1 testing sporting some different badging that read "XP2R." Immediately folks said that it may be some sort of high-performance variant that it was shaping up for after the launch of the standard P1.

Well, how wrong they were.

It turns out that the XP2R is actually a standard P1 development car. The tag actually means eXperimental, validation and pre-production, according to Autocar. The two simply indicates it's the second test vehicle and the "R" means revised, as in a revamped prototype.

Sorry to burst the big 'ol bubble, folks!

Mclaren is currently testing on the Nürburgring with this silver P1 'XP2R'. Mclaren's chief test driver Chris Goodwin was behind the wheel.
